My name is Marisa Quinn-Haisu. I am a fiction writer, a blogger and a freelance journalist. I live in Perth, Western Australia with my husband and daughter. When I was growing up I wanted to be the next J.K Rowling. She was my hero. I loved her rags-to-riches story. It was so inspiring. She was like the Cinderella of Publishing.
I had dreams of growing up and becoming a full time novelist who had legions of fans and spent her days sipping coffee and working on a laptop in a café.
I was in my late 20s when my enthusiasm for writing fiction started to fizzle out. I had lost my muse. I was tired of spending hours bent over a computer slaving over a novel. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do next. I knew I did not want to stop writing all together but writing fiction no longer interested me. It was in 2016 when I decided to give freelance writing a whirl.
It turned out I was not a good fit for traditional journalism but there was this area in between fiction writing and journalism that was perfect for me. It was called content writing. I started writing media releases, reviews, lists and blog articles and immediately got my muse back. I discovered I did not have to write fiction to be able to flex my creative muscles.
The reason I call myself a fiction writer, a blogger and a freelance journalist is because I don’t like to limit my writing to just one area. I’m like Diane from Bojack Horseman. I like to do a little bit of everything. I am a writer.
